I used to trade live and rare tapes (then CD-Rs) from the mid-90's to the early 2000's, focusing on the rarer side of punk/indie/hardcore. Throughout the years I ended up having some really kick-ass stuff that, to this day, I've yet to find circulating. So instead of it all sitting in bins gathering dust, I decided to start posting the gems.

Hoover - Live at the Black Cat
I had just moved to Baltimore a few months earlier, and couldn't believe my luck when I found out this reunion show was happening. I've been a HUGE Hoover fan ever since I first heard the LP in the mid-90's but never got a chance to see them. Turns out I somehow missed that they were playing the very next night in Baltimore, too. Figures..
It was snowing that night, pretty hard, so I was nervous making the drive into DC - but more nervous that it might get cancelled. I was able to get right up front which made for an excellent recording, one of my better ones.
I am still unsure what the very last encore song is. I suspect it's a cover, but the Google machine has failed me in lyrical searches. So if you know, shed some light.

Black Eyes - Live at The Black Cat
This show took place right before their excellent self-titled LP came out, so it has a nice mix of songs from that record and earlier jams. I've yet to come across any other Black Eyes shows, so this might be it. February 7th, 2003.

Cilantro - Empty Soda Can 7"
With the recent J Church posts, I've had a few folks request the Cilantro 7". Cilantro was simply Lance solo, usually with fuzzed-out vocals. Some of these recordings did find their way onto a few J Church records, but he was sitting on a bunch that was left unreleased.
He did end up releasing a 2nd Cilantro 7" entitled "Sexy Sadie", but it was limited to 20 and I missed the boat on that one.

J Church - Everything That Was Live
So this is the final chapter in gathering the loose ends that were not compiled on any singles collections (and the companion piece to Everything That Was Left).
This includes 4 of the 5 songs from the Peel Session (Yellow, Blue, and Green was never released), the bonus 7" to the Prophylaxis LP, split 7" with Minority Blues Band, a comp song, and the 3 live songs from the Yellow, Blue, and Green CDEP.
I was going to rip the 2 songs from Surface Meets Surface tape comp, but the mix is so bad that they're kind of painful to listen to, so we're all better off without them.

Universal Order of Armageddon - Live at the Hiltz House
All hail the almighty Universal Order of Armageddon. Long time a favorite of mine, I was lucky enough to see a couple of their reunion shows and they were just spot on and thunderous. I saw them, Cap'n Jazz, and Sleepytime Trio all in the same year (2011).. what a weird and wonderful time we're living in.
This is one of two shows I have that must have been taped by the same guy, a fantastic recording with a great mix - even vocals (which is mega-rare for house shows). Try finding a better sounding house show from '93, I dare ya.

Wrangler Brutes - Live in Denver
I don't know much about this show other than it is a fantastic sounding soundboard recording recorded in Denver (hence the title) in 2004. But really, what else even matters?

Owen, Cait, & Kyle - Live at The Middle East
This show is from a cool tour that Mike Kinsella (Owen) and Cait and Kyle from Rainer Maria did in 2001. They brought along Bob Hoffnar, who plays the goddamn most loveliest slide guitar I've ever heard. I got this from a taper buddy up in New England, who I sadly lost touch with because as you'll hear, he did a great job recording it.
I have 2 shows (I think the 2nd is from the night after), but the set lists are identical so I posted the slightly better of the 2.
It's a great mix of early Owen songs, Kyle's songs, and a few covers.

J Church - Everything That Was Left
J Church was one of the first punk bands I got into and it was fun trying to hunt down all of their singles - and this was in pre-internet days, so it was quite a challenge. I was religious about it for a few years until Brendan, and then Gardner, left the band and I simply lost interest.
After Lance passed away, I had the urge to go back and track down everything I was missing. They did a great job compiling many of the obscure singles and compilation tracks over the years.. which brings me to this post.
This is what was left that never saw re-release on the once-convenient shiny-plastic CD format. I FINALLY got ahold of "The Creep Is Back" from the impossible to afford We Are Bacteria 7", which was the only song missing in order to make this collection complete.
So this ends the search. I did my best to EQ and make the songs as pretty as possible, so I hope you enjoy.
